Product Overview

The personal battle flag of General Custer, the most famous U.S. Cavalry Officer in American history, this flag was handmade by his wife Elizabeth 'Libbie' Custer during the final days of the Civil War and brought to him on the battlefield. Delivered on horseback by one of his staff and unfurled in the fury of the Battle of Dinwiddie Court House on March 31st, 1865, it was in Custer's hand as he leaped his horse over Pickett's breastworks the next day. Custer carried this flag with him throughout his career, though he later used copies while on the march. One was with him at the Battle of Big Horn. The original by his wife survives to this day.
