"Thin blue line" is a phrase used by law enforcement. The phrase refers figuratively to the position of law enforcement in society as a bulwark between order and anomie, or between criminals and the potential victims of crime.

The term began as an allusion to the famous Thin Red Line, when a British regiment held off a Russian cavalry charge during the Crimean War in 1854.

This is American-made of tough, durable and long-lasting polyester and nylon fabric, with solid brass grommets on a polycotton hem. The fabrics are not printed, but dyed fabrics sewn together. You won't find nylon flags with higher tensile and tear strength. The blue and black bars on this flag are sewn, not printed, for both durability and a polished, professional look.

Flags get a lot of sun exposure, so this fabric has excellent strength retention under UV exposure, with high resistance to fading. The colors are deeper and brighter that last over time, due to the aniline dyeing process. The fabric has better wash-fastness and light-fastness than nylons of similar fabric construction.

Representing the "thin blue line" of police protection, this symbol is displayed to represent a police officer. As a flag it is sometimes flown to show support for the police forces that protect society (but must never be displayed in a manner that misrepresents a public person as a police official).

There is a one inch edge fold with four rows of stitching on the fly.
