This economical USSR flag represents the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, commonly called the Soviet Union. Sometimes called a Soviet Russia flag, it represents the former union, not Russia alone or today's Russian Federation. The red field carries a gold hammer and sickle beneath a gold-bordered red star.
