Description

This is the flag flown by the Florida 5th Infantry when they fought on the battlefield. The 5th fought from early in the war at the Battle of Cold Harbor until Appomattox. They were at the Battle of Antietam at Sharpsburg, including the famous Cornfield where they took heavy casualties. The 5th battled at Fredericksburg and Chancellorsville, before arriving to Gettysburg, where they supported Pickett’s Charge of July 3rd. Out of 321 men engaged, it lost 28 men killed, 94 men wounded, and 3 missing. The 5th went on to fight at the Battle of Wilderness and the siege of Petersburg. They were with Lee on April 9th Appomattox, down to 6 officers and 47 men.
